License Suspension [as] "alerted by MA police"?
« on: February 07, 2020, 09:05:43 pm »
Hi thank you for letting me write on your webpage. I listen to a podcast called The True Crime Garage and there was a interview with Mrs. Julie Murray sister of Maura. I have been learning about her case and just yesterday found another interview with Mrs. J. Murray on a podcast about her sister. Fascinating case especially since I am from Massachusetts where the family is from.

Is there a way to share information or make sure I am understanding it correctly? Mrs. Murray said they now think Maura's purpose for going to New Hampshire was to resolve a [[NH]] suspended license from a speeding ticket, pay re-instatement fee? They think that she was told her license was suspended in New Hampshire and is "something she should take care of" by the police officer who was on the scene of the [[MA]] car accident?
Here is the problem. A Massachusetts police officer would not have access to that information especially not in 2004. I have tried to leave a comment on the podcast--:
I can vouch that up until at least 2006 (my final year), the interface Massachusetts police used when running a license did not include any details from other states. When I ran a license it would show DOB, name, address, and physical details from license (ex: height). Then any moving violations in Massachusetts within I believe it was a 36 month period. It certainly was not interlocked with any other states systems, as Massachusetts opted out of that program along with I believe 5 other states. The officer would have NO information about suspensions or violations outside of Massachusetts. The Registry of Motor vehicles did begin share information with other states sometime in the past decade, but that is a different system entirely for different purposes unrelated to information or the system LEO would be using.

I can say with certainty if she had a desire to reinstate an out of state LI suspension, it was not prompted by an officer of the law. I started a discussion about this on a message group board I'm part of which you are welcome to read (to post you must provide proof you work or worked in Law Enforcement, but anyone can read with the guest code I can share if you want). Only one reply so far, but he [current MSP] says they still don't have access to out of state information with the onboard system.
